Overview

NaturalReader AI Text to Speech is the personal-use version of NaturalReader. It allows individuals to listen to text and documents using AI-powered voices, either directly in the app or by converting content into MP3 files for personal listening.

What is personal use?

All voices in NaturalReader AI Text to Speech - Personal Version are licensed for personal use only. This includes all Premium and Plus voices available under Plus, Premium EDU, or Plus EDU subscriptions.

Personal use means that only you (the user) can use the audio created with these voices for your own private use.
This means:

  • You can listen to text privately on your own devices

  • You can save MP3 files for your personal use

However, if the audio is redistributed or shared in any way, such as:

  • Sending MP3s to others

  • Posting the audio online

  • Using it in videos, podcasts, or any online content

  • Using it in a business, school, or organization (unless it’s strictly for private listening as a reading tool and not for purposes like training videos, customer-facing content, automated messages, e-learning material, etc)

then it is no longer personal use and requires a commercial license instead.

For those needs, see our commercial product: NaturalReader AI Voice Generator - Commercial Version.

Supported Platforms

NaturalReader AI Text to Speech - Personal Version is available on:

Web App: Use on Mac, Windows, and Chromebook with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge

Mobile Apps: iOS and Android

Chrome Extension: Adds in-browser reading for online content. Use with Chrome or Edge

We recommend using the latest version of your operating system and browser for the best experience. Older operating systems or browsers may not be supported.

Supported File Types

NaturalReader AI Text to Speech - Personal Version supports a wide range of document formats across web and mobile apps, including:

  • pdf*, txt, non-DRM epub, doc(x), ppt(x), xls(x), numbers, pages, png*, jpeg*, key, csv, odt, ods, odp, html, rtf, xlt, psd, bmp, xml, svg, cdr, eps, psw, dot, and tiff

*Image-based files (e.g. image PDFs, PNG, JPEG) must be converted first using OCR, which is available with a subscription. Some PDFs may contain scanned text or be otherwise inaccessible, so OCR conversion is also required in those cases.

DRM-protected ebooks cannot be uploaded to NaturalReader. DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a security technology used to prevent redistribution of digital content. Most ebooks purchased from vendors like Apple Books or Kindle are DRM-protected, which blocks any third-party programs from opening them.

Differences From NaturalReader AI Voice Generator - Commercial Version

Purpose:

  • Personal Version is a reading tool, designed for users to listen to content while reading, with features like highlighting, annotations, and accessibility tools.

  • Commercial Version is a voice generation tool that streamlines text-to-speech for content creation. It does not read directly from documents and does not include reading or accessibility features.

  • Personal and Commercial versions contain different voice lists

Use Cases:

  • Personal Version: For private listening

  • Commercial Version: For redistribution (e.g., videos, audiobooks, ads, voiceovers)
