NaturalReader offers tools that let you save audio for offline listening, highlight content, and mark important spots in your document.

Convert to mp3

This feature allows subscribers to create MP3 files from their typed or uploaded text for offline listening. Free users cannot convert to MP3 and Free Voices cannot be converted to mp3 for either free or paid users.

After typing or uploading your text:

  1. Open the three-dot menu and select mp3.

  2. The Convert Audio window will appear.

  3. Confirm your current voice and speed settings. These will be used for the mp3.

  4. Review the character count, including spaces and punctuation.
You'll also see how many characters you have remaining in your monthly mp3 limit.

  5. If your document has multiple pages, select a page range (up to 20 pages at a time). You can convert longer documents in batches.

  6. Select Convert Now.

  7. Once it finishes, choose Listen, Download, or Go to Audio Library. The file will download to your default Downloads folder or saved location.

To access the Audio Library later:

  • On web: open Library (book icon), click the three-dot menu (top right), then select Audio Library

  • On mobile: tap Home to return to Library, tap the three-dot menu (top right), then select Audio Library

Notes:

  • mp3 conversion is a paid feature.

  • Subscribers can convert up to 1 million characters per month. See Voices, Languages, and TTS Limits for details.

  • Free voices cannot be used for mp3 conversion.

  • mp3s are stored for 30 days in the Audio Library.

  • The 20-page limit applies per conversion, not per document. Larger files can be converted in parts.

Annotations

Use annotations to highlight parts of your uploaded document and optionally add notes. This feature is available for uploaded documents only (not typed-in text).

Annotations can be created in two ways:

  1. Using the Click Menu

    • Click or tap on the text you want to highlight.

    • Select Highlight from the options

    • A small prompt will confirm the highlight is saved.

    • (Optional) Click or tap Add Note from the prompt to add a note to the highlight.

  2. Using the Annotate Icon

    • Click or tap the Annotate icon in the top toolbar to activate highlighting mode.

    • Click or tap on any text to highlight it. You can highlight multiple selections.

    • If you're inactive for a few seconds, the highlighter will turn off automatically.

    • As above, a prompt will confirm the highlight, and you can click or tap Add Note.

You can add notes to any highlight at the time it's created or later.

Viewing and Managing Annotations

There are two ways to open the annotation viewer:

  1. Click or tap the Document Navigation icon (top left) > select the Annotations tab

  2. Or, click or tap the menu (three dots) > select Annotations

From here, you can:

  • View and search your annotations

  • Click or tap the location marker icon next to an annotation to jump to that section of the document

  • Edit or delete them

  • Export highlights and notes

  • Tap or click the sort icon to sort by Date or Page

Modifying Annotations

  • Change highlight colour: Mouse over (web) or tap (mobile) the annotation, then choose a new colour.

  • Edit highlight text: Mouse over or tap the annotation, click/tap the edit icon, change the text, then click/tap the checkmark.
(Note: this updates only how the text appears in the annotation list, not in the document itself.)

  • Edit a note: Click or tap the existing note, make your changes, then click/tap the checkmark to save.

  • Add note: Mouse over or tap the annotation, click/tap the note icon, enter your note, then click/tap the checkmark. You can add multiple notes to the same annotation.

  • Delete an annotation: Mouse over or tap the annotation, click/tap the trash icon. This removes both the highlight and any attached notes.

Export Options

  • Export PDF: Save a copy of the document with highlights shown (notes are not included).

  • Export Text: Download a .txt file that includes the highlighted content along with any notes you've added.

Ask AI

Ask AI is a powerful personal AI learning assistant available to subscribers only. It helps you interact with your uploaded documents to support study, research, and learning.

To open Ask AI:

  • While a document or text is open, click or tap the AI icon in the top left corner.

You’ll be prompted to select a page range up to 200 pages. Ask AI will only work with the content in the selected range.

Examples of what it can do:

  • Generate summaries of the document

  • Identify key terms and definitions

  • Create notes or study prompts

  • Translate content

  • Answer questions about the selected content

Working with a response:

  • Click or tap the loudspeaker icon to listen to Ask AI’s response using your current voice and speed settings.

    • Use play/pause or drag the slider to navigate the audio.

    • Click or tap the download icon to save the audio file.

    • Click or tap the X button to exit audio playback.

  • Click or tap the copy icon to copy the response to your clipboard.

  • Click or tap the translation icon to translate Ask AI’s response to a different language.

Additional options:

  • Click or tap New Chat to start a new session and select a different page range.

  • Click or tap the History icon (clock symbol) to view your chat history.

Important notes:

  • Ask AI is a subscriber-only feature.

  • Ask AI access can be disabled by EDU plan owners or admins.
See Ask AI and Voice Cloning – EDU Owners & Admins for more information.

  • Ask AI is an AI tool, not a GPT—it does not generate creative content or provide information outside your document.

  • It can only answer questions based on the uploaded document and the selected page range.

  • Like all AI tools, it may occasionally produce incorrect answers. Always fact-check with the document itself.

  • This tool is meant to assist learning. Please use AI responsibly and thoughtfully.

Bookmarks

Use bookmarks to mark important parts of your uploaded document so you can quickly return to them later. Bookmarks cannot be added to typed-in text.

To add a bookmark:

  • While the document is being read aloud, click or tap the menu (three dots), then select Bookmark.

  • The portion currently being read will be saved as a bookmark.

To view bookmarks:

  • Click or tap the Document Navigation icon (top left)

  • Select the Bookmarks tab

From here, you can:

  • Mouse over (web) or tap (mobile) the bookmark to reveal the Play icon, which jumps to that section in the document

  • Mouse over (web) or tap (mobile) the bookmark to reveal the trash icon, which deletes the bookmark

Notes:

  • Bookmarks are available only in uploaded documents.

  • Bookmarks are not included in any exported files.

  • You can add multiple bookmarks to a single document.

  • Bookmarks remain accessible as long as the document is in your Library.
