Display and Reading Appearance - Personal Version

Customize how the reading interface looks—adjust highlight styles, enable dark mode, use closed captions, and more.

Highlight Colour and Style

Change the colour of the highlighter and how text is highlighted while reading.

To adjust your highlight settings:

Web and Mobile

  • Click or tap the menu (three dots) > More > Text Highlight

  • Use the drop-down menu to choose how text is highlighted:

    • Sentence and word

    • Sentence only

    • Word only

    • None

  • Choose your highlight colour from the preset options.

The highlight colour you select here will also be used for your annotations. To change the colour of individual annotations, see Working with Text and Audio – Personal Version.


Dark Mode

Switch to a dark background to reduce screen glare while reading.

Web and Mobile

  • Click or tap the menu (three dots)

  • Click or tap to toggle Dark Mode on or off

Note: Dark Mode applies to the interface and the reading view. For uploaded documents, the original background colour cannot be directly modified, so images may appear colour-inverted.


Closed Captions

Display real-time subtitles at the bottom of the screen during playback.

Web

  • Click the CC icon in the top toolbar to toggle closed captions on or off

  • When enabled, word-by-word highlighting will appear in the CC panel

  • You can still follow along in the original document with sentence-level highlighting

Mobile
On mobile, Closed Captions are integrated with the Text View feature.

  • Tap the View icon (eye icon) in the top toolbar to enter Text View mode

  • Tap CC to switch to Closed Captions mode

  • From here, tap the View button to turn CC on or off

  • To return to Text View mode, turn CC on and tap the TXT button from the CC window

Text View

A distraction-free, full-screen reading experience available on mobile only. Text View extracts the text from your document into a clean, simplified interface. This mode is ideal for focused reading and offers smooth visual tracking.

To open Text View:

  • Tap the View icon (eye icon) in the top toolbar

  • If you're in Closed Captions mode, tap the TXT button in the CC window to switch to Text View

While in Text View:

  • Individual word highlighting is active

  • Autoscroll, return to reading, navigation, and annotations are all supported

  • Tap the collapse icon in the top left to exit Text View

  • Tap the location icon in the top toolbar to return to the current reading position if you've scrolled away

  • Tap any text to begin reading from that spot

  • Tap the < and > buttons next to the play button to move forward or back by page

  • Tap A- or A+ in the top toolbar to adjust the font size

  • Tap the pages icon in the bottom toolbar to navigate by page

  • Tap Annotate in the bottom toolbar to annotate the current reading


Font Settings

Adjust text appearance for better readability and accessibility when working with typed-in text.

Web and Mobile
Font settings apply only to typed-in text.

  • Click or tap the menu (three dots) > Font

  • From here, you can:

    • Click or tap to adjust font size

    • Click or tap to toggle extra text spacing

    • Click or tap to toggle the Dyslexia-friendly font

These options are designed to support accessibility and personal reading comfort.
