These features are available on both the web and mobile apps, unless noted otherwise.

Most basic features are available for free. However, the most advanced and powerful features require a subscription, including extended listening, MP3 conversion, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), full Text Filter controls, and the Ask AI tool.


Voice and Playback Settings

Voice Options

Choose from a wide selection of AI, Cloned, and Multilingual voices. Pin favourites or switch voices at any time. Subscribe for extended listening.

Advanced Voice Controls

Adjust reading speed, set pauses between sentences/paragraphs, repeat sentences (up to 5x), and adjust volume.

Multiple Readers

Add a second voice and set whether to alternate by sentence or paragraph.

Voice Cloning

Create a text to speech voice using your own voice. Cloned Voices, list all other voices in this version, are for personal use only.

Timer

Stop reading automatically after a set amount of time.

Pronunciation Editor

Customize how specific words or names are pronounced.

Hotkeys

Tap the spacebar to play or pause and use the arrow buttons to move forward or backward in the playback.


Reading and Listening Tools

Read Uploaded Documents

Upload and listen to supported file types like PDF, Word, EPUB, and more. Use OCR to convert image-based files if needed.

Listen to Typed or Pasted Text

Type or paste text directly into the app to listen. Some advanced features like annotations or navigation may not be available for pasted content.

OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
A subscription feature that enables the conversion of scanned or image-based files into accessible text.

Scan to Text
A subscription feature that re-converts uploads into readable text using OCR. Helpful for fixing reading issues caused by formatting problems (ie reading columns out of order or skipping sections of text)

Add Webpages by URL

Paste a webpage link into the app to extract and listen to its text.

Chrome Extension (Web-only)

Read online content aloud directly in your browser (Chrome or Edge only).

Click Options
Click on any part of the text to bring up a quick menu with actions: Read, Copy, Highlight, or Translate.

Autoscroll
Enable automatic scrolling so the document moves in sync with the audio playback.

Return to Text
If you scroll away while listening, click 'Return to Text' to jump back to the part currently being read.

Resume Reading
Pick up right where you left off in a document when you return to the app or re-open a document from your library.


MP3 Conversion and Downloads

Convert Text to MP3

A subscription feature to turn content into downloadable MP3 files to listen to offline. Daily and monthly character limits apply.

Smartwatch Support

Sync saved MP3s to your Apple or Google smartwatch and listen offline.


Reading Aids and Navigation

Text Filter

Choose to automatically skip over specific text elements such as page numbers, headers/footers, citations, or text in parentheses during playback. Subscribe for full Text Filter access.

Annotations

Highlight text, add notes, and export your annotations and notes when needed.

Ask AI

Summarize, explain, translate, or ask questions about your content. Subscribe to use this powerful AI tool.

Document Navigation Sidebar

Use page thumbnails, jump to headings (Contents), view annotations, or access bookmarks.

Bookmarks

Add bookmarks to mark important sections and navigate long documents more easily.


Library Management

Library

Keep and re-open past uploads in your document library (retained up to 1 year), export or download files, and access audio files from your audio library (retained up to 1 month).rms.

Sharing Tools

Generate a link to share documents for others to listen to the content

Shared Library (EDU only)

In EDU plans, Teachers (admin users) can upload files to a shared library for a class. All class members can view and listen to these files, making it easy to share classroom resources.


Display

Change Highlight Colour

Choose a highlight colour for sentence and word tracking during playback.

Highlight Style
Set whether text is highlighted word by word, sentence by sentence, or not at all during playback.

Dark Mode

Switch to a dark background for more comfortable reading in low-light environments.

Closed Captions

Turn on captions to display sentence-level text in a fixed area below the reading window.

Text View (Mobile Only)

Strip away images and formatting to focus on plain text with adjustable font size for easier reading.

Font Settings (Typed Text Only)

For typed-in content, adjust font size and line spacing, and optionally enable the Dyslexia font for easier reading.
